New Directions Industries (NDI) is a Work Therapy Program that provides opportunities for Central State Hospital (CSH) clients to learn or relearn appropriate behaviors and expectations related to the work environment through participation in paid work activities.  The program is available to clients from all three of the hospital's client care services.  NDI includes a 19,000 square-foot facility that houses a variety of light industrial activities and employs an average of 30 hospital clients.  NDI produces products and provides services for CSH, other state facilities, private industry and individuals.
 

Current work activities in operation at NDI include:

  Condiment Packaging - dining room condiments (salt, pepper, sugar, etc.), along with napkins, are placed into individual silverware bags.

  Soap Packaging - bulk laundry soap is placed into pre-measured packages for convenience.

  Packet Collation and Assembly - bulletins, newsletters, etc. are collated and assembled for distribution.

  Sign Engraving - plastic signs (name plates, instructional signs, etc.) are manufactured according to customer's specifications.
  Sewing/Apparel Manufacturing - cloth items such as gowns, bibs, butchers' aprons and nurses' scrub tops are manufactured; repairs and alterations are also available.
 Frame Shop - complete framing of certificates, diplomas, prints, paintings, etc.

NDI accepts contract work from private industries.
